Candidates for the 2020 Board of Directors

Candidates

President (2)

Bill Petersen

Bill Petersen

Bio: I have worked in information security for about 20 years. Giving back to the community is important to me and I can’t think of a better way than being president of the NTX ISSA. What have I done that qualifies me to be president? I have served as secretary, treasurer, events coordinator and president. I have also served on the board of Speak Up ALLEN toastmasters and ALLEN Cub Scout pack and Boy Scout troop. I have worked in IT and IS for over 30 years.

Reason for Seeking Position: I love the way NTX ISSA is growing and I want to be a part of helping it to continue to grow to be the best ISSA group in the USA (if we aren’t already). I respect and invite inputs from all board members and general members. No one person has all the answers. I want to continue to grow our involvement in schools, colleges and universities. We need to help grow the pool of talented people to fill the thousands of open jobs. I want to continue to grow the Women in Security SIG. we need a more diverse pool of women helping to shape the info sec of tomorrow!

Clay Ramsey

Clay Ramsey

Bio: I’m a past president of the chapter, and being aware of the pending turnover on the board, I feel that my experience in recruiting members and service as Secretary, Vice President and President can help the chapter develop our next generation of chapter leaders. I’ve served for many years already and after a year off, I feel ready to volunteer again.

Reason for Seeking Position: Having served as a recruiter, Secretary, VP, and President, and being aware of pending board churn, I’m volunteering to serve as president to bridge the transition from a highly successful board era to another newer board era. There’s a need to help ensure the new board has the benefit of know how from prior boards.

Vice President (2)

Hank Chavers

Hank Chavers

Bio: I have over 20 years of experience in development, testing, and deployment of services in mobile ecosystems where security and reliability are always top priorities. My experience covers the advent of Internet & Mobile convergence, the initiation and growth of always-connected services, securing & using credentials on handsets, and the introduction of the Internet of Things where he has focused on providing security and authentication services. My experience includes work with Nokia, Ericsson, consultant to Fortune 50 telecommunication firms, and GlobalPlatform who defines embedded systems, authentication, and confidential configuration management standards. I am now a Security Architect for Panasonic Automotive Systems of America. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and a Certified Information Services Security Profession (CISSP).

Reason for Seeking Position: The expansion of the Internet to every aspect of our lives is both awesome and frightening. The Internet of Things has taken the pure virtuality out of the web and given it physical control. Integrity, Confidentiality, and Availability are more important that ever, and the foundation for the cybersecurity profession. And AI with Machine Learning is introducing the autonomous age. I desire to provide leadership for NTXISSA into the Internet expansion and its explosive needs for security professionals. New security based organizations are emerging every day, challenging ISSA value and prominence. The growth in security organizations should be welcomed but high quality must be required. NTXISSA has to work with the relevant organizations to provide support for security professionals, both veterans and new recruits.

From physical security of classified and non-classified critical data and information systems, I’ve worked as a technician, engineer, pen tester, virtualization data center operations implementation and security, mobile apps security, IoT security, and satellite communications technology reliability and security. In the Autonomous Vehicle space, I’ve served corporate strategist for hardware design, security framework in standards bodies, market-driven security product scope and design, to include firmware, software, real-time operating systems and middleware interoperability. This latter work includes proprietary and open-source platforms to meet secure product requirements, as well as market growth and adoption needs.

Reason for Seeking Position: I believe that the honor of serving our local community of cybersecurity professionals as Vice President of our North Texas Chapter will provide the opportunity for me to listen to the needs of our community with the advantage that my broad and intense security background, and business education and experience present, to hear objectively and deliver effective people driven solutions. As a leader, confidence in how the technology works is an advantage, but gaining the trust of the community, while providing a vision for our future is vital for our professionals to stay ahead of the malicious and negligent threats that rear their head persistently. Of course, every organization works best as cohesive partners unified and represented by the President.
